Mail Shepherd 3.0 (build 454) · Updated October 21, 2026
Setup
Green check: on and working.
Red octagon with ×: a required setting is off or can’t be read; the text under its button says how to turn it on.
Grey clock: not known yet, for example Mail Automation until macOS asks the first time, or Contacts before you’ve clicked Allow.
Orange triangle: an optional setting that’s off (Open at Login).
While a required setting is off, Setup’s row in the sidebar shows an orange warning triangle.
Why a message is listed
These icons are grey, with a small colored badge in the lower right corner.
Person with a red ×, beside a Review Blocked row’s first line: the sender is blocked (on Mail’s blocked list or Mail Shepherd’s Blocked Senders). It’s also on Block Sender on a message’s details.
Globe with a red ×, beside a Review Blocked row’s second line: the sender’s domain is on your Blocked Domains. It’s also on the Block Domain buttons.
Eye with an orange triangle, beside a Review Junk row: the message is junk that isn’t from a blocked sender or domain.
On a message’s details, a note with a check mark means the sender or domain is already blocked, and a note with an i in a circle says why a button can’t be used, such as a shared email provider.
Sidebar
- Setup: a gear. Sweep: a hand broom. Automate: a timer. Action Log: a list. Get Support: a life preserver.
- Review Blocked: an eye with a red ×. Review Junk: an eye with an orange triangle.
- Blocked Senders: a person with a red ×. Blocked Domains: a globe with a red ×. Allowed Domains: a globe with a green +.
The View menu uses the same icons.
Warnings
- Orange triangle beside a button or in a list’s footer: something you did, or an Auto-Sweep, ran into a problem. Point at it to read the problem; click it to open the Action Log.
- Orange banner: something needs fixing before you can go on, such as “Setup needs attention” or “Open Mail to run a Sweep.”, usually with a button that fixes it.
